Section 116470(b) of the California Health and Safety Code requires public water systems to prepare a report every three years that compares the levels of drinking water constituents with their respective Public Health Goals (PHGs) or Maximum Contaminant Level Goals (MCLGs). A PHG (or MCLG) is the level of a contaminant in drinking water below which there is no known or expected risk to health. PHGs are established by the California Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). MCLGs are established by the USEPA.
The PHG Report identifies the number of sources that have constituents in excess of their respective PHGs or MCLGs. The PHG Report also provides an estimated cost to reduce the concentration of those constituents to levels at or below their respective PHGs or MCLGs.
The Public Health Goal Report is intended to provide specific, detailed information to the public beyond what is provided in the Consumer Confidence Report (CCR). SSWD produces a CCR every year by July 1st.
